Group A closed out the opening round of VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai on Sunday, September 27: 100 Thieves beat T1 2-0 and FUT Esports beat JD Gaming 2-0. All 16 teams have played once: eight are 1-0, eight are 0-1. As of this writing (early Monday, September 28), Monday is a rest day and play resumes on Tuesday with G2 Esports vs Paper Rex. Summit. The Americas Stage 2 champions led 3-0 before T1 won six straight rounds to lead 7-5 at the half. 100 Thieves then took eight of the nine second-half rounds, including the last six. Cryocells (Chamber) went 23/9/0 with 6 first kills and zero first deaths.
Ascent. T1 won the opening pistol and led 4-1, but 100 Thieves flipped it to 7-5 at the half. T1 won four straight to level at 9-9, and 100 Thieves answered with the last four rounds. Asuna (Phoenix) finished the map 22/11/4.
Cryocells ended the series 45/23/6 with a 1.52 VLR rating and 8 first kills with no first deaths across both maps.

Ascent. FUT won the first 12 rounds for a 12-0 half. JDG’s only round was the second-half pistol, and the map was over in under 35 minutes. s0pp (Jett) went 20/6/1 with a 376 ACS, and KROSTALY added 17/4/3.
Summit. On their own pick, JDG led 8-4 at the break, with a Yuicaw clutch in round 10 answered by a KROSTALY clutch in round 12. After the side swap, FUT won four straight rounds to reach 8-8, then took four of the last five from 9-9. s0pp and xeus combined for 44 kills on the map, and s0pp finished the series 41/23/5 with 11 first kills.

All four Americas teams (G2, NRG, LOUD, 100 Thieves) won their openers 2-0. All four Chinese home teams (TYLOO, Xi Lai Gaming, EDward Gaming, JD Gaming) lost 0-2 without taking a map. EMEA went 3-1 (Karmine Corp, Vitality and FUT won), and Paper Rex was the only Pacific team to win. Three of this week’s four elimination matches are Pacific vs China.

The second match can start before 7:00 PM WIB if the first ends in two maps: on Sunday, JDG vs FUT began at around 6:30 PM WIB (7:30 PM SGT). Karmine Corp vs NRG is a rematch of their Esports World Cup 2026 decider in July, which NRG won 2-1.
What’s at Stake for Southeast Asia
Paper Rex, with f0rsakeN (Indonesia), d4v41 (Malaysia), invy (Philippines) and Jinggg (Singapore), need one more win to reach the playoffs as Group C winners. Since Masters Toronto 2025, they have won all four meetings with G2 at international VCT events. A loss drops them into Saturday’s decider at 4:00 PM WIB (5:00 PM SGT) against the winner of TYLOO vs Team Liquid.
TYLOO, with Indonesia’s Splash, must beat Team Liquid on Thursday or go home. If Paper Rex lose on Tuesday and TYLOO win on Thursday, f0rsakeN and Splash would face each other in Saturday’s Group C decider for a playoff spot.
Global Esports, with Filipino duo PatMen and xavi8k, face EDward Gaming on Friday at 4:00 PM WIB (5:00 PM SGT) and cannot afford another loss either.
When Do the Playoffs Start?
The playoffs begin on Wednesday, October 7 at 4:00 PM WIB (5:00 PM SGT) with the upper bracket quarterfinals at Jing’an Sports Center. All eight teams start in the upper bracket of a double-elimination bracket. Every series is best-of-three except the lower final and Grand Final, which are best-of-five. After a break from October 12 to 15, the final three days move to Mercedes-Benz Arena, with the Grand Final on Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 PM WIB (2:00 PM SGT).
