What Each Day Decides in the MPL ID S18 Playoff Bye Race
Friday, October 16: the byes can be settled on day one
NAVI vs RRQ (15.00 WIB / 16.00 SGT). One win guarantees NAVI a top-two finish and a bye, whatever happens elsewhere. NAVI come in on a two-match winning streak and won the first meeting 2-0.
Geek Fam vs Alter Ego (18.00 WIB / 19.00 SGT). This is the key match of day one. If AE lose, NAVI and TLID both lock in the top two that night and AE are fixed at 3rd or 4th. If AE win, they are guaranteed a top-three finish and Bigetron can no longer climb to 3rd. Geek Fam are out, but they have won two straight, including a 2-0 over EVOS on October 11.
Saturday, October 17: Bigetron vs EVOS shapes Round 1
Bigetron vs EVOS (17.00 WIB / 18.00 SGT) is the swing match of day two. A BTR win puts BTR in 3rd or 4th and drops EVOS and ONIC to 5th or 6th. An EVOS win means BTR can fall as low as 6th. EVOS won the first meeting 2-1.
ONIC vs Dewa (14.00 WIB / 15.00 SGT) matters for ONIC: losing this and then losing to TLID leaves ONIC 6th. Dewa have lost four in a row but beat ONIC 2-1 on September 5. RRQ vs Geek Fam (20.00 WIB / 21.00 SGT) only sorts out the eliminated teams.
Sunday, October 18: the race for first seed
- EVOS vs Alter Ego (14.00 WIB / 15.00 SGT). AE can only finish first if they beat Geek Fam and EVOS, NAVI lose twice, TLID lose to ONIC, and AE have the better game difference.
- NAVI vs Bigetron (17.00 WIB / 18.00 SGT). If NAVI win both Week 9 matches, they finish first. BTR are one of three teams to beat NAVI this season (2-0 on August 28).
- ONIC vs TLID (20.00 WIB / 21.00 SGT). A win guarantees TLID a top-two spot, and first place if NAVI lose twice. If NAVI and TLID both end at 12-4, game difference decides.
If the current order holds through October 18, Round 1 on Wednesday, November 4 will be Alter Ego vs ONIC at 13.00 WIB (14.00 SGT) and Bigetron vs EVOS at 18.00 WIB (19.00 SGT): seed 3 vs 6 and seed 4 vs 5, best of five, loser eliminated.
